District 3 Holstein sale averages $1,655

HARLEM SPRINGS, Ohio – Smith Hills Fred Wanda was the top seller at the District 3 Harvest Hills Holstein Sale Oct. 9 at the Tuscarawas County Fairgrounds.

Kibler Dairy Farm, Warren, Ohio, paid $3,150 for the cow consigned by Charles W. Smith and family of Sardis, Ohio.

The second highest sellers were two consignments from Larry Harding’s Hardingdale Farm in New Philadelphia, Ohio.

Hardingdale Milan Violet was purchased by Dan Trbovich of Waynesburg, Ohio. Hardingdale Ito Tippy was purchased by Luke Hostetler, Dalton, Ohio. Both brought $2,650.

Nineteen cows in the sale averaged $1,915.

Bred heifers. Topping the bred heifers was the consignment of David Hogle’s Kon-Yat Farms, Conneaut.

Kon-Yat Rmarker Arva Ali-ET brought $2,600 from Kibler Dairy Farm.

Another bred heifer, Schmucker R Mark Moo, consigned by Danny Schmucker of Louisville, Ohio, brought $2,000 from Luke Hostetler.

Bred heifers in the sale averaged $1,564.

Yearling heifers. The high-selling yearling heifer was WV-Glory Bonanza Tina, consigned by Emily Riggle of Valley Grove, W.Va.

She sold to Mose Mast, Baltic, Ohio, for $1,450.

The second highest yearling heifer was WV-Glory Eddie Jedi, consigned by Gregory McCombs, Wheeling, W.Va.

She was purchased for $1,025 by David Troyer of Sugarcreek, Ohio.

Yearlings averaged $953.

Calves. Hem-View Rox-Core, a spring calf consigned by Pete Sommer of Southside, W.Va., was the high-selling calf in the sale.

She was purchased by Cody and Katy Dudte of Wooster, Ohio, for $1,800.

A fall calf consigned by Emily Sommer of Southside, W.Va., brought $1,700 from Tom Thorbahn of Vickery, Ohio.

Calves averaged $1,415.

Six young calves were sold. The top calf, Lah-Dale Durham Beatty, brought $1,250 from Brittany Young of Sugarcreek, Ohio. The calf was consigned by Rick Lahmers of Stone Creek, Ohio.

Bar-B-Hills Durham Delight, consigned by Lumley Holsteins, Carrollton, Ohio, brought $1.150 from Tom Thorbahn.

Young calves averaged $880.

Overall data. Overall average on 56 lots was $1,655. Steve Andrews, Wooster, was auctioneer. Ringmen were Max Dunseth, Ken Janes and Rusty Kiko.
