FARM SCIENCE REVIEW: Buckeye Power Co-op gets $250 million loan

LONDON, Ohio – On his swing through Ohio Sept. 20, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns awarded an electric utility loan of nearly $240 million to Buckeye Power Cooperative.
USDA makes and guarantees loans and grants to develop community facilities and improve the quality of life in rural areas across America.
Johanns made the announcement prior to hosting the 20th farm bill listening forum at Ohio’s Farm Science Review.
Used for scrubbers. Buckeye Power will use the $239,760,000 loan to install a flue gas desulphurization facility, reducing sulfur dioxide emissions at its Cardinal power plant.
Other Ohio news. Additionally, Johanns announced the award of several loans and grants through the USDA Community Facilities program.
