SALEM, Ohio – The Ohio Valley Giant Pumpkin Growers will hold a free giant pumpkin growing seminar Feb. 27 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Green Township Community Building in Greenford.

Grower Tim Parks will cover seed selection, soils, fertility, pests, pollination, pruning and irrigation. Seeds from last year’s giant pumpkins will be available at the seminar.

The group is considered one of the world’s premier giant pumpkin clubs with 300 members in North America. Last year, Ohio-grown seeds produced 25 of the 99 largest pumpkins in the world, including several over 1000 pounds.

The group sponsors seminars, a summer patch tour and picnic, newsletters and the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth weigh-off with $5500 in prize money. The weigh-off also has divisions for heaviest tomato, watermelon, muskmelon, hard stem pumpkin and squash.

To register for the seminar call Parks Garden Center at 330-533-7278.
