Homebuyer’s guide can be foundation for smart decisions

ITHACA, N.Y. – Buying a home is one of the biggest and most important purchases consumers make. Buyers can reach much better decisions if they have accurate information available to them upfront.

A publication from the Northeast Regional Agricultural Engineering Service, Home Buyers’ Guide: Financing and Evaluating Prospective Homes, NRAES-50, provides valuable information on each step in the homebuying process.

The 72-page publication covers six major topics: information-gathering, financing, location, floor plans, inspections and environmental safety.

Also included is a home inspection checklist, which neatly summarizes room by room what a buyer should be looking for when inspecting a home. A glossary of home-buying terms is also included, as well as a list of references used in writing the book.

The 72-page guide is supplemented by 19 figures and 13 tables.

Home Buyers’ Guide: Financing and Evaluating Prospective Homes, NRAES-50, is available for $8 each plus postage and handling from NRAES, Cooperative Extension, 152 Riley-Robb Hall, Ithaca, NY 14853-5701. Shipping and handling for single copies is $3.75 within the continental United States.
