Horse owners get update on West Nile virus, vaccinations

BURTON, Ohio – Dr. William Saville, OSU Extension veterinarian in Columbus, will update the equine industry on West Nile Virus and vaccinations at two sessions in Geauga County March 27.

From 4-6 p.m., there will be a special session offering continuing education credits to veterinarians. At 7 p.m., Saville will speak to the public.

Last year, USDA approved a conditionally licensed West Nile vaccine for horses. Ohio State University recommends horses be given two vaccinations three to six weeks apart.

The registration fee for the 7-9 p.m. session is $10 per person. To register, or for more information, contact the Geauga County OSU Extension Office at 440-834-4656 or 285-2222 Ext. 5260, or registration can be mailed to OSU Extension, P.O. Box 387, Burton, OH 44021.
