COLUMBUS – An aquaculture workshop will be Jan. 24 at the Buckeye Career Center in New Philadelphia, Ohio, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The workshop will discuss how to get started in aquaculture, production methods, selecting the right species, marketing, and processing and developing a business plan.

Specialists will walk participants through the process and describe the realities of starting an aquaculture business in Ohio.

Aquaculture is a growing industry with more than 200 permitted farms with the majority owned and managed by families.

Yellow perch, rainbow trout, largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, and minnows are the top six species grown in Ohio.

Registration is $30 and includes morning refreshments, lunch and a resource notebook. It is due by Jan. 16, 2004. Registration for additional family members is $15.
