Reader: USDA should rethink animal ID system

Thank you for sharing Mr. Dickinson’s, Animal ID enforcement — the fourth component, letter with your readers.

Mr. Dickinson makes many excellent points about the National Animal Identification System. The National Animal Identification System is a work in progress and none of us know what the cost of this will be, especially in terms of enforcement penalties.

Until USDA can provide the facts and figures of a cost/benefit study of the National Animal Identification System that demonstrates it is workable, not intrusive, better than our existing programs, and more cost-effective, Congress and the USDA should stop wasting our taxpayer dollars on this program.
