COLUMBUS – The Ohio Farmers Union has named Steven Maurer executive director of the farm organization.
Maurer is familiar with Ohio’s agricultural community, having served as director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture in the Celeste administration, and as state executive director of the USDA’s Farm Service Agency.
The former educator and state senator is also a past regional administrator for the state auditor’s office. He also has a background in insurance.
Maurer holds a degree in education from Ohio State University. He is an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
OFU President Joseph Logan said Maurer brings “deep experience and education” that will give the organization “the opportunity to engage more fully in issues important for Ohio farmers.
As executive director, Maurer will oversee legislative affairs, education and cooperative development activities.
A native of Shelby County, Maurer currently lives in Franklin County.
