WINTERSVILLE, Ohio – Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District, in association with the Ohio State University Extension, will have its 14th annual Fernwood Forest Outdoor Days May 19.

The program, Integrating Environmental Education and Classroom Curriculum, is geared toward Jefferson County fifth-grade students.

The event is at Fernwood State Park.

It will combine interactive stations for outdoor discovery with tools for proficiency examinations.

Students will launch rockets, while identifying potential hazards or precautions involved in scientific investigations.

They will search for salamanders at the pond site, while learning to classify objects, organisms and/or phenomena.

In addition, they will examine plantings, while tracing the transmission of energy in a small, simple ecosystem.
