Pa. soybean plot yields 100 bushel soybeans

WEST LEBANON, Ind. — Good growing conditions go a long way in boosting soybean yields. But when you combine ideal weather with outstanding seed genetics, you may get great yields. That’s what Hubner Seed has found.

One Pennsylvania plot yielded more than 100 bushels per acre in 2009, and another wasn’t far behind.

“The same Hubner Genuity™ Roundup Ready 2 Yield® soybean variety planted in two different plots in Lancaster County yielded 93 and 108 bushels per acre respectively,” says Matt Willard, product manager and sales agronomist for Hubner Seed Co.

Hubner Seed is offering a full line-up of new Genuity™ Roundup Ready 2 Yield® soybean products for 2010.

Willard says the list includes mid-Group II through mid-Group III soybeans, along with select late Group III and early to mid-Group IV varieties.

“All of the varieties are in elite germplasm that farmers will find is well suited to their specific region. We have a product to fit every farm,” says Willard.

“We can make product recommendations that are matched to the unique needs of every customer. We encourage farmers to just get the seed placed in their operations for 2010 and see how they perform.”

Genuity™ Roundup Ready 2 Yield® soybeans were developed by Monsanto.

Mapping

Gene mapping within a soybean was done to identify specific DNA regions that had a positive impact on yield.

Advanced insertion and selection technologies were then used to place the Roundup Ready 2 Yield® gene into a specific DNA region. Willard says the resulting greater number of three-bean pods helps contribute to more beans per plant, higher yield and greater profit potential.
