Why do you love the fair?

There’s nothing quite like a county fair and you gave us lots of reasons to look forward to the 2007 fair season. Your enthusiasm showed in the responses and we appreciate the time you took to reply.
Members and advisers from one Ashtabula County 4-H club (the Pierpont Mix’n’Match PACS) really let us know why they love their fair. They sent 30 responses!

The Mile Branch Grange Fair is the best because of the tractor pulls. I look forward to driving the tractor over to be a tow tractor and where ever else I can to help out. And the pig wrestling is good, clean fun, too.

The Columbiana County Fair is the best because of the steak burgers. Oh yeah! And because of Saturday night football. Another reason is all the fun and laughs that people share and being with friends. The best, best, best, best part is the combine derby. And one last thing – the DANCE!

The Trumbull County Fair is the best because this will be my 30th year there. I have been a 4-H adviser for the last 20 years. It is great to see the smiles from 4-H members showing off the projects they have completed and the animals they have put their heart into raising and training.

The Geauga County Fair is the best because it’s the one I have been to the most and the one I am most familiar with. It’s the place I first got a blue ribbon and all in all, I just like it a lot. My favorite thing about the Geauga County Fair is competing in the junior fair activities. I have gone to a fair at least once a year and I have fun at fairs all the time.

The Fairview Grange Fair* was the best because it’s the first one I ever went to and could actually walk to it without having to get into the car, strap the children into their respective seats, go to the bank to get an exorbitant amount of money, and then go to park in an area that is as far away as our home.
By the time we actually got to the old time fair with the rides and cotton candy, we’d seen all of the sheep, prize cows and bulls, the ducks and chickens and goats, etc.
We can then enjoy the wonders of being awestruck by the glitzy machinery that will attempt to make you ill in the stomach. At that time in our lives, we were tough and wouldn’t blow cookies in front of anyone for life or money. We were farm folk.

The Canfield Fair is the best because the FFA and 4-H are well represented. There is a nice antique tractor display and Saturday night tractor pull. And the picture/art building is awesome.

The Jefferson County Fair is the best because of the people. The fair is clean and safe, due to the dedication of the fair board, sheriff’s department and volunteers.
It is held at Friendship Park in Smithfield, Ohio. Set in the Appalachian foothills of eastern Ohio, the park is a former coal field that was reclaimed and donated to the county. Entertainment at the fair has included Confederate Railroad and PovertyNeck Hillbillies.
I have been to county fairs in Indiana, Pennsylvania and Ohio and still like ours the best.
