Young farmers earn bureau awards

SALT LAKE CITY – Winners of the Young Farmer and Rancher Achievement Award, Discussion Meet and Excellence in Agriculture competitions were announced recently at the American Farm Bureau Federation’s 88th annual meeting.
Achievement Award. John and Jill Mahan of Kentucky won the Achievement Award. They are the winners of a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 SLT Quad Cab 4×4 pickup truck.
They also received free registration to the 2007 American Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmer and Rancher Leadership Conference, Feb. 10-13, in Jacksonville, Fla.
Runners-up in the Achievement Award contest included Alan and Sarah Wuebker of Ohio. They received a Case IH DX compact tractor and a $250 parts-and-service gift certificate.
Discussion meet. Amy Christensen of California won the discussion meet.
She took home a 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 SLT Quad Cab 4×4 pickup truck, plus free registration to the 2007 Young Farmer and Rancher Leadership Conference.
The runners-up in the discussion meet included Charlene Espenshade of Pennsylvania. She received a $6,000 U.S. Savings Bond and a Farm Boss chainsaw.
Excellence. Brian and Carrie Dalton of South Carolina won the Excellence in Agriculture Award. They received a 2007 Dodge Quad Cab 4×4 1500 pickup truck, plus free registration to the 2007 Young Farmer and Rancher Leadership Conference.
The runners-up in the Excellence in Agriculture competition included John Buck of Ohio. He received a $4,000 U.S. Savings Bond and a Farm Boss chainsaw.
