Walnut Honey Loaf

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 egg, or 2 unbeaten egg yolks

Directions:

  1. Sift together the flour, soda and salt.
  2. Set aside.
  3. Combine honey, milk and sugar in a 3-quart saucepan.
  4. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, just until sugar is dissolved (mixture will be lukewarm).
  5. Cool.
  6. Add dry ingredients, walnuts, butter, and egg (yolks) to the honey/milk mixture.
  7. Beat 2 minutes with electric mixer on lowest speed.
  8. Turn into 9x5x3-inch pan, well greased on the bottom.
  9. Bake in slow oven, 325 degrees for 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours.
  10. Cool before slicing.
