The Ohio Power Siting Board will hold a public hearing regarding Pleasant Prairie Solar Energy LLC’s proposal to build a 250 megawatt solar farm on about 1,700 acres in Pleasant and Prairie townships in Franklin County.

Instead of setting up a referendum process for residents to approve each large renewable energy project, a sub bill added onto Ohio House Bill 118 would instead let townships designate certain areas of the community for utility-scale solar and wind developments.

The American Solar Grazing Association is looking for shepherds, beekeepers and solar sites to participate in a study looking at the impacts of agrivoltaics. Data will be collected during the 2022 and 2023 grazing seasons.

The Ohio Power Siting Board will hold a public hearing regarding Sycamore Creek Solar, LLC’s proposal to construct a 117 megawatt solar farm on about 917 acres in Cranberry Township, Crawford County.

The first utility-scale solar project in Ohio went on the grid in February. The second will soon be complete. These projects — Hardin and Hillcrest — are ushering in a new era of energy production for the state and forcing rural communities to reevaluate how they interact with one another and the land.

The Ohio Power Siting Board is holding two virtual public hearings in July for proposed solar farms in Erie and Hardin counties. The projects would cover just under 2,500 acres, combined.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development is giving nearly $300,000 in grants to farm and businesses in Ohio and Pennsylvania to install solar, conduct energy assessments or make other energy efficiency upgrades.

Amazon is behind two new solar projects in Ohio. The company is also supporting nine other solar projects and one wind project in Ohio that will produce in total more than 1,000 megawatts of power.

The Arche Energy Project in Fulton County was approved by the Ohio Power Siting Board April 15. The 107-megawatt solar facility will be built on about 600 acres in Gorham Township.
