We don't have any equipment to drill or plant grass and clover seed into our hay field but I have heard that seed could be broadcast over the field if the hay was cut short and the weather was damp. Would fall be the best time to do this? I would think it would be the natural time, just like grasses or other plants going to seed and planting themselves.

Well okay, I know how to grow them, plant in dirt then wait to grow. But what I am not certain of is how to harvest them next year when I put out ~10 acres of them. As of this year I am doing a test plot 40x100 ft and the steers love them. Just want to see if anyone has any advice on managing them from planting to harvest. Thanks!

Well, it's easy to get depressed and cynical in the current economic atmosphere. But what's the silver lining? We know it's out there. Help us stay focused on the good around us by finishing this sentence in this forum:

"The one positive thing I've seen come from the economic crunch is ...."

And I'll even start:

"The one positive thing I've seen come from the economic crunch is a re-awakening to the importance of living within our means!"

The Animal Agriculture Alliance (Alliance) has learned that Rush Limbaugh has, probably mistakenly, lent his voice to Public Service Announcements supporting the vegan-driven Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).

Read more here, http://bit.ly/fbz8, and also click through to the link for more information and ways you can tell Rush that you disapprove of his support of an organization that would like to dissolve animal agriculture (my e-mail letter to him went out today!)

For those of you on Twitter, every Tuesday from 8-10 (Eastern) p.m., there is a 'chat' on this issue. It started only 4/07/09, so it's still just getting going, but I read that there were more than 100 who participated in some way last week.

To participate, be online or on your phone and look for tweets with this hashtag - #agchat. To see the tweets you can use any number of options such as Tweetdeck or basic Twitter search. Just search for that hashtag and you can even scroll back through this week's chat. YOu can also sign into TweetChat (http://tweetchat.com) and use the #agchat search and participate easily that way, too.

Even if you don't make it Tuesday nights, you can still use the Twitter search for #agchat and see what was talked about.
