Business Insider reports that one computer scientist has found a way to print plants with a 3D printer.

The computer scientist, Yuichiro Takeuchi of Sony Computer Science Laboratories, Inc., has dreams of transforming his hometown of Tokyo, Japan with rooftop gardens. These rooftop gardens would improve the air and, since plants have been known to boost productivity, workers would benefit.

The gardens can be printed in any shape. As of now, only small plants can be grown, but in the future, Takeuchi plans to build a bigger printer that could plant fruit, vegetables and trees.
