Ingredients:
- 2 apples
- 2 cans refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 1 cup butter
- 1½ cups Mello Yello or Mountain Dew soda, room temperature
- 1¼ cups light brown sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- ½ tsp. nutmeg
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 F. Wash and peel apples. Core both apples and cut into eight equal pieces.
- Melt butter over low heat in a small saucepan. When the butter is melted, add the light brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. Whisk until fully blended. Allow to cool slightly.
- As the butter is melting, lightly coat the bottom of a 9-by-13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
- Unroll crescent roll dough. Into each triangle of dough, place one apple wedge on the top end of the croissant dough and roll the apple piece into the dough. Tuck any loose dough around the apple, then place into the baking dish. Space the dumplings evenly, leaving a little room between.
- Pour the slightly cooled sauce over the dumplings. Be sure to coat each dumpling fully. Carefully pour the soda around the edges of the pan and between the dumplings. Avoid pouring it directly onto the dumplings.
- Bake for 40 minutes. Allow dumplings to cool for 10 minutes before serving.
