Hazard a guess at how this ceramic bowl was used!

Hello from Hazard!
We heard from two readers on Item No. 1048, which Mary Lalinsky submitted on Farm and Dairy’s Facebook page. And it’s fitting that since she submitted it via social media, that we received one of our responses via Twitter! The times they are a’changin’.

Rose Briggs, of Union City, Pennsylvania, and Karen Woodruff, of Urbana, Ohio, say Lalinsky’s tool is a set of tongs used for lifting canning jars out of a hot water bath.

“I used it for many, many years,” writes Rose, “and still have it. You needed two hands for using it.”

Our thanks to readers who respond — no matter if they use old or new media!

Our newest item comes from Jeanne Barto, of Economy Borough, Pennsylvania. An interesting-looking bowl, don’t you think? If you know how it was used, email responses to editorial@farmanddairy.com; or respond by mail to: Hazard a Guess, c/o Farm and Dairy, P.O. Box 38, Salem, OH 44460.
