Hello from Hazard!

Clark Colby of North Huntingdon, Pa., has solved a Hazard mystery: Item No. 885.

Colby says the item is a threading plate used by watchmakers and other vintage precision machinists to hand cut threads on small screws or to “chase” threads on damaged screws.

Each hole has a different thread size.

Colby guesses the item we showed is between 100 and 150 years old.

No one responded to Item No. 887, first shared last week, so we’ll show it again this week.

Reader Nello Mungai of Hickory, Pa., sent in the photo for a friend. Can anyone help them out? It’s marked “Pat’d Sept. 9 1890”.

  1. Item NO. 888 is a Heat Diffuser. It is used to prevent scorching of pots and pans. It can be used on gas or electric stoves. we use one everyday for our glass coffee pot. I also use when simmering sauces that have a tendency to stick.
