The church is the house of God

“How amiable are thy tabernacles, O Lord of Hosts! Blessed are they that dwell in Thy house … I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.”

 Psalm 84:1-4, 10

How important is the church to you? Is it just a building or a place? When you think of a church, do you envision a steeple standing high in the air?

The church is more than a steeple. It’s more than organ music or plush decor with comfortable church pews. The church is the house of God. It’s a place to gather with others and worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.

“Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it that He might sanctify it and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, that He might present it to Himself a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle, or any such thing, but it should be hold and without blemish.” — Ephesians 5:25b-27

The church offers hope to a world filled with hate, sorrow, heartache and trouble of all kinds through the teachings of the word of God. The message of the church reminds us there is still hope for tomorrow. It teaches us the way of salvation.

The church is a lighthouse that provides rest for the weary. It rescues the perishing and cares for the dying. The church is alive and God is still God enough for every situation that comes into our lives.

Don’t ignore the church of today. Its message offers you and your family new life in Jesus Christ.

I love thy church, O God!

Her walls before Thee stand,

Dear as the apple of Thine eye,

And grave on Thy hand.

— Timothy Dwight
