A roundup of 4-H news for the week of Aug. 20, 2009

AUGUSTA, Ohio –The Augusta Ranchers met Aug. 12 at the Brown Frame Community Building with nine members in attendance.

Members discussed fair results and decided to host a thank you dinner for parents, project buyers and helpers Sept. 10 at the Brown Frame at 6:30 p.m.

The dinner committee will consist of Sophie Stasiak, Courtney Crider and Madison Snode.

Members also discussed having a covered dish picnic at either the Malvern Community Park or the Bi-Centennial Park in Minerva with the cloverbuds.
The club will donate desserts to the Brown Frame Friendly Circle and assist with working the pork dinner Sept. 19.

Demonstrations were given by: Logan Snode on wasp nests; Parker Snode on parakeet care; Sophie Stasiak on the assembly of a first aide kit; Carissa Crider on the proper way to sand wood; Courtney Crider on how to read a sewing pattern; Eriq McFadden on the proper way to hold and swing a baseball bat and Cameron Crider on gravity.

Safety talks were given by Sophie Stasiak on preparing for home emergencies and Courtney and Cameron Crider on how to be safe at home.

Members will meet at 5 p.m. Sept. 10 to prepare for the thank you dinner. The next regular meeting will be Oct. 13 at the Brown Frame Community Center.
