ALLIANCE, Ohio — The Marlington FFA sent one student, Phoebe Filisky, to the subdistrict B Public Speaking contest Feb. 11 at Minerva. Filisky recited The FFA Creed in front of a panel of judges and then answered questions. Fiisky received third.

SMITHVILLE, Ohio —The Smithville FFA ag sales team recently placed third at the district competition. Team members were Willow Bear, Wren Hostetler, Wyatt Baer and Frank Becker.

 
Students completed a test covering sales, marketing, and advertising principles. Students also completed a sales presentation and a customer service practicum to judges.

JEROMESVILLE, Ohio — On Feb. 9, Hillsdale High School hosted the district public speaking contest. The Hillsdale chapter had four students compete: Keayla Harr, Madi Heller, William Yeater and Malery Sloan.

 
Yeater and Heller recited the FFA creed and both placed first. Harr wrote a speech on genomics and their role in determining EPDs (expected progeny differences). She competed in advanced prepared speaking and placed second.

 
Sloan competed in extemporaneous speaking, and placed first.

 
On Jan. 30, the Hillsdale chapter reporter, treasurer and secretary turned in their officer books to the Ohio FFA organization, where they were judged.

 
Reporter Macy Payne, Treasurer Shelbi Long, and Secretary Bethany Heiby each received gold ratings, and Payne and Heiby received a perfect score on their books.

MINERVA, Ohio — The Minerva FFA had a “Teach Ag Day” Jan. 30 at Minerva Middle School.

 
The officers of the FFA chapter went to the Middle School during the day to teach the eighth-graders about the FFA and the class they will be taking. The students who participated were Taylor Zwick, Lizzie Berstler, Brii Moyer, Madi Snode, Mike Burton, Logan Fritz, Martin Merrick, and Kaitelyn Wayts.

MILLERSBURG, Ohio — The West Holmes FFA hosted and participated in the district ag sales competition Feb. 3. The team placed first in the district, which qualified them for the state competition Feb. 21.

 
On Jan. 29, the West Holmes FFA chapter officer team operated a booth at John Deere day at OARDC. Those participating were Shyann Kick, Morgan Hoxworth, Chris Sprang, Jason Jenkins, Elise Neville, Terry Medley, Hannah Schlegel, and Wyatt Mellor.

WEST SALEM, Ohio — The Northwestern FFA Chapter competed in the district 3 ag sales contest held at Hillsdale High School.

 
Zach Berry, Kaci Way, Ben Vaughan, and Rachelle Howman competed. Kierstyn Wood, Cody Tegtmeier, Kyle Piscone, and Jessie Bair participated as alternates.

 
The team placed second overall in the district, with Zach Berry placing second individually. The team will advance to the state contest Feb. 21 in Columbus.

 
Also, the chapter is now selling strawberries, fresh from Florida. They will be delivered the week of March 17 and are available in a full flat, for $20, or a half flat, for $12. A full flat is 12 pints or approximately 11 pounds, and a half flat is 6 pints or approximately 51⁄2 pounds.
