NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio — The Tuscarawas County 4-H Health and Safety Speaking Contest was held June 16 at JIM’s Place in New Philadelphia. Junior division winners: 1. (preliminary), Emma Sprowl of Port Washington, member of Red Rock Rebels, Senseless; 2. Joseph Brown of Port Washington, member of Thunder Valley Pioneers, Tummy Troubles. Senior division: 1. (preliminary), Taylor Sprowl of Port Washington, member of Red Rock Rebels, Jenny; 2. (preliminary), Clayton Sprowl of Port Washington, member of Red Rock Rebels, You Scream, I Scream. Skit Contest Junior Division winners: 1. (preliminary), Red Rock Rebels, members: Emma and Abby Sprowl, Tyler Haun, Brianna Leslie and Katey Long with their skit, The Late Show; 2. (preliminary), St. John’s 4-H’ers, members: Paige Milburn, Maddie Prendergast, Alyssa Renicker, Aubrey Thomas, and Bella Warne with their skit, All Bikers Big & Small, Biking Safely is for All.

Skit contest senior division winners: 1. (preliminary), Mix-N-Match, members: Felicity Ankrom, Jade Jones, and Michael Miller with their skit, If You Can’t Take the Heat (Kitchen Safety); 2. Atwood Lakers, members: Abby Ackerman, Barbi Boyd, and Elizabeth Cox with their skit, Seen But Not Heard.

Those with “preliminary” listed will compete in Wooster on July 1 for State Fair. Shooting Sports Demonstration (State Fair qualifier for Shooting Sports Demonstration Contest): Aden Smith of Dover, member of 4-H Shooting Sports of Tuscarawas County with his demonstration, On Target Jerky.

PIERPONT, Ohio — The Pierpont Mix-N-Match PACS 4-H Club is getting ready for this year’s fair with the help of advisers Bart and Kelly Kanicki and Ros Eldred. The club has 30 members with a variety of projects. This year’s officers for the Pierpont Mix-N-Match PACS are president, Josh Sommers; vice president, Adele Bogardus; secretary, Olivia Holden; treasurer, Levi Cole; news reporters Abbey and Kate Cole; and recreation officers Cody Kanicki and Justin Swiger.

Super Saturday is July 16, and there is one remaining required parent/adviser livestock meeting July 18 at 6 p.m. at the 4-H Expo building. Required parent/adviser saddle horse meetings are June 26 from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. and July 18 from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m., both held at the 4-H Expo building. Carcass forms are due by July 1 in the county Extension office.
