Stumptown Steam Threshers to hold show

NEW ATHENS, Ohio — The Stumptown Steam Threshers Club 46th reunion and show will be Sept. 6-7 at the club’s show grounds.

The event opens at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 6 with a flag raising and playing of the national anthem.

The public is invited to view steam traction engines powering an antique saw mill sawing boards. Other demonstrations will include steam traction engines powering an antique threshing machine.

Freshly ground corn meal will be for sale.

On display

There will also be a number of antique single cylinder gas engines, which will be used to power equipment such as pump jacks, butter churns, cream separators and washing machines.

Antique farm tractors and crawlers of numerous makes and models will be on display, as well as a variety of antique lawn and garden tractors. Antique cars and trucks will also be on display.

At 12:45 p.m. Sept. 6, the Stumptown Ladies Auxiliary will present the Thresherman’s of the Year and Thresherman’s Queen awards. At 1 p.m. there is a steam engine operators contest.

A Kiddie Pedal Tractor Pull will take place at 3 p.m. At 5 p.m. the Ohio Valley Promenaders square dance group will perform.

Day 2. Sept

7 begins with a worship service at 8:30 a.m. A tractor operator’s contest will take place at 1 p.m. Awards will be given at 2:30 p.m. for the oldest man and women attending this year’s show. At the same time, the drawing will be held for the winner of the quilt being raffled by the ladies auxiliary.

At 2:45 p.m., children will get a chance to search for quarters and candy in a pile of wood shavings.

The two-day event will come to an end with the grand parade of equipment through the grounds at 4 p.m.

Show admission is $3 per day for adults. Children under 12 are admitted free with an adult.

Club memberships are available for $6 per person. A commemorative badge is included with each membership. A membership is valid for admission to both days of the 2008 show.

Plates and mugs commemorating this year’s show will be on sale also.

The club grounds are located on Ohio 519, 1 mile west of New Athens, between U.S. 22 and Ohio 9.
