Walnut secretary brings $2,600

SALEM, Ohio – Hofmeister Realty and Auction Company held an early summer auction in Salem, Ohio at the Salem Elks Hall.

Of most interest was the top lot of the sale: a walnut cylinder secretary from the late 1800s that sold for $2600. It had an interior of birdseye maple and tiger maple.

Other sellers were a rare Regina 8 1/2-inch 1893 music box, $1,700; large oak curved glass china cupboard, $1,300; stepback cupboard of pinned and chamfered construction, $550; oak revolving bookcase, $900; circa 1810 graduated drawer chest, $700; primitive dry sink, $500; a 1906 Hoosier cupboard; $550; Hoosier Jr. cabinet, $400; and a mahogany Governor Winthrop corner cupboard, $450.
