BUTLER, Pa. – The Lawrence County Wool Growers’ Wool Pool will be June 4 at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds.
This annual one-day cooperative wool marketing project attracts producers from Western Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia. Wool may be delivered anytime between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Prices for this year’s pool are:
* Fine staple, 36 cents per pound;
* One half staple, 29 cents per pound;
* Fine and one half clothing, 22 cents per pound;
* Three eighths and one quarter staple, 23 cents per pound;
* Three eights and one quarter clothing, 8 cents per pound;
* Low quarter, 21 cents per pound.
Based on the amount of foreign matter and other flaws, light vegetable matter will sell for 19 cents and heavy vegetable matter for 16 cents per pound.
The wool pool will not be accepting Natural Colored or Tags.
Fleeces brought for sale should be clean, dry, and untied. Wool should be bagged in plastic wool bags or plastic garbage bags. Wool bagged in burlap wool bags will be accepted, but may be graded as light vegetable or heavy vegetable matter. Woven plastic feed bags should not be used to bag wool. Wet wool will not be accepted.
Fleeces containing burrs, chaff, manure locks, and foreign matter will be graded as either light vegetable matter or heavy vegetable matter wool.
Producers must be a member of the Lawrence County Cooperative Wool Growers to market wool through the pool. The membership fee of $1 can be paid at the pool.
Sheep supplies will be available for purchase and lunch is available on the grounds.
The Lawrence County Fairground is located on Route 108 approximately halfway between Harlansburg and New Castle.
