- 3/4 toasted almonds
- 1/4 lb. (1 stick) butter
- 3/4 sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 1/4 s flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons orange liquor and zest of orange or lemon
Cream butter and sugar; add eggs. When smooth, add any orange zest and liquor. Sift in flour, baking powder and salt. Stir in almonds. On floured board, divide dough in half and roll each half into long roll, about 1 1/2 inches by 10 inches. Bake rolls at 350° about 20 to 25 minutes. Cool 5 minutes. Slice into 1/2 inch thick slices. Lay slices flat and bake each side 8 to 10 minutes.
Dip in chocolate and then in peppermint stick crumbs for a festive flare.
Any amount of orange zest will add to the flavor, even if it isn’t two tablespoons. Grate orange skin off an orange, mix it into the dough, and then eat the orange.
