SALEM, Ohio — James William McLaughlin, 86, of Salem, Ohio, died Nov. 11 , 2014, at the Crandall Medical Center in Sebring.

Mr. McLaughlin was born June 9, 1928, in Boardman, Ohio, to Edward Matthias and Mary (Mick) McLaughlin.

He worked for the city of Salem in the water, sewer and distribution departments, retiring in 1985 after 30 years. He also was a farmer and founder of McLaughlin Truck Caps and Nursery.

He was a Korean Conflict veteran serving in the U.S. Army, and was a lifetime member of the Columbiana County Antique Tractor Club.

He was preceded in death, on Nov. 4, 2000, by his wife Beverly Ethel (Siers) McLaughlin, whom he married Oct. 10, 1953.

He is survived by a son, Greg McLaughlin of Salem; two daughters, Paula Meiler, of Millersburg, and Wendy Belaney, of Canfield; four sisters, Margaret Phillips of North Benton; Agnes Ridgeway of Hanoverton; Theresa Long of Beloit; and Jenny Troutman of Alabama; and six grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a brother Joseph, and three sisters, Frances McLaughlin, Mary Painter Harding and Helen Shields, who was Mr. McLaughlin’s twin sister.

Calling hours were held Nov. 14, 2014, at the Maple Cotton Funeral Home in Kensington, and the funeral service was Nov. 15 at the funeral home with burial following in Woodsdale Cemetery.
