BARLOW, Ohio — The Warren FFA Chapter held its 51st banquet at Warren High School March 12.

After the meal, Weston McAfee recited the FFA Creed and an FFA alumni greeting was given by Robert Jordan. Jeremy Grove, former Ohio FFA President, also made remarks.

Officers from the 2010-2011 officer team spoke about their experiences such as the Washington Leadership Conference, Colt Conference, the Parliamentary Procedure Team, and the National FFA Convention.

Scholarships to various camps and conferences were given to members from different grade levels. Star Awards were awarded to one member from each grade. As a review of the FFA’s year, members and guests watched a slide show put together by senior Elizabeth Heiss.

The banquet ended with the installation of the 2011-2012 officer team.

WASHINGTON COURTHOUSE –The Miami Trace FFA chapter held its annual invitational and District 9 Career Development Event Judging Contest at the Fayette Co. Fairgrounds.

Chapters from all traveled to the fairgrounds so that members could compete in their specialized areas. The contest covered agronomy, dairy cattle, dairy products, equine management, general livestock, and poultry.

Miami Trace students who weren’t competing worked the show rings, administrated tests, and gave instructions.

Miami Trace placed as following in each contest of the invitational: Agronomy: third of 15; Dairy Cattle: third of 21; Equine Management: 11th of 41; General Livestock: fourth of 55; Poultry: fourth of 29.

JEROMESVILLE, Ohio — The Hillsdale FFA Agricultural and Industrial Diagnostics team participated in the state contest March 9.

The team placed third at the state level. Andrew Baldner and Michael Schuck were participants in this contest. They both received a $5,000 scholarship.

MIDDLEBOURNE, W.Va. — The 61st annual Tyler County ham, bacon & egg show and sale was held March 10 at the high school. Auctioneer Robert Phillips of Joe Pyle’s Auctioneering Service conducted the sale, which grossed $44,770, setting another record year for the students.

There were 70 hams, 70 bacons, 10 dozen eggs, and 10 loaves of bread sold to local business and supporters of the program.

The grand champion bread was exhibited by Devan Derby and sold for $500 to DAC – Energy, Kenny Mason. Reserve champion bread was exhibited by Mallory Hammond and sold for $340 to Dr. Milhoan’s Dental Office.

Grand champion eggs was exhibited by Alex VanCamp and sold for $400 to Dr. Rob Christian. Reserve champion eggs was exhibited by Laken Curtis and sold for $380 to Roger Weese.

Devon Thompson exhibited the grand champion ham, which sold for $987 to Sancho Oil & Gas. Emily Wells’ reserve champion ham sold for $634.50 to DAC- Energy, Kenny Mason.

Joe Henthorn exhibited both the grand and reserve champion bacon. The grand champion lot sold for $782.80 to Long Reach Federal Credit Union, while the reserve sold for $756 to John Roberts, Tyler County Magistrate.

The Tyler FFA Scholarship ham sold for $650 to Union Bank, and the Tyler FFA Scholarship Bacon sold for $775 to Sancho Oil & Gas.

Funds. Proceeds from the sale are used to continue their Supervised Agricultural Experience Program or to further their education beyond high school.
