– Hess Auction Co. LLC of Buford, Ohio, held an auction March 18 in Hillsboro, Ohio, by order of Robert Nave, owner.
An IH 1086 tractor was the top-selling item at $13,000.

– Auctioneer Nick Cummings of Schrader Real Estate and Auction Co. Inc. of Columbia City, Ind., called an auction March 20 in Bellefontaine, Ohio, with 225 registered bidders.
The top-selling item was a John Deere 4850 tractor for $28,750.
Other highlights included a John Deere 690 excavator for $13,750; a C-IH 1680 combine with tires and rims for $12,500; a John Deere 4320 tractor for $9,500 and a John Deere 630 disk for $8,200.
– Cold winds and a steady rain didn’t stop dedicated auction goers from attending a large antique auction held March 8 in Independence, Ohio.
Conducted by auctioneers Ralph Sitko and Richard “Mike” Dinse and assisted by auctioneers Thomas “Gene” Mattingly and Mel Sobieski of Sitko Complete Auction Service, Strongsville, Ohio, this auction featured many unique and unusual items that appealed to the more than 100 registered bidders.
Among the items sold were an illuminated Coca Cola diner sign for $450; a Porter Beer advertising tray for $145; a Western Flyer bicycle for $105; a Planters Peanut jar for $85; an Army mine detector for $45; a Nippon tea set for $40; a Carnival glass berry set for $40 and a Mousketeers lunch box for $27.50.
– Gary W. Cain Realtors and Auctioneers of East Springfield, Ohio, held the Jablonski estate auction March 21 in Toronto, Ohio, for 267 registered bidders and a crowd of more than 500.
The real estate consisted of 10 acres with a 1 1/2-story, 4-bedroom brick home in need of repair and a large bank barn. The real estate sold for $77,500.
Top-selling items were a 1990 Kubota four-wheel drive tractor with finish mower for $4,100; a 1976 MG Midget in need of restoration for $3,100; a collection of firearms for $2,700; a 1980 Harley Davidson Sportster in need of restoration for $1,400; a 1997 Ford Taurus for $1,950; a John Deere 300 for $775 and a 1979 Triumph motorcycle needing restoration for $700.

Interesting roundup here. I am a new reader and I would love to know the reason for the majority of these auctions. Is it the economy? Are farmers becoming antiquated based on societies desire for technology and inconvenience as well? I plan to run a series of interviews over the next few months and these types of questions are exactly the types of questions I will be asking.
