Breeders honored at Eastern Ohio Shorthorn Association district show

CANFIELD, Ohio — The Eastern Ohio Shorthorn Association held its district show during the 2012 Canfield Fair in Mahoning County. This year’s show was dedicated to Shorthorn breeders Harold and Rosella Martin of Kimbolton, Ohio, in Guernsey County.

Harold’s first Shorthorn heifer was shown at the Guernsey County Fair 70 years ago. Over the years, he and his children have shown at the local county fair.

Judging

Dale Rains of Mercer, Pa., evaluated the 56 head of Shorthorn cattle. He selected HHF Reba 43y as the grand champion female. The May 2011 heifer was sired by AF-SL Sin City ET. This female was also the junior female champion. She is owned by Hively’s Highland Farm, New Waterford, Ohio.

The reserve grand champion female was Key Ridge Ayris 264. This April 2011 female was sired by JSF Thunder of Jazz 27U. She was also the reserve female junior champion and is owned by Key Ridge Shorthorn Farm, Bellaire, Ohio.

Other winners

The other division champions were:

Female junior calf champion — WBCC Augusta Pride, a March 2012 calf sired by Sull Wingman 7049ET. She was exhibited by WB Shorthorns, Rogers, Ohio.

Reserve female calf champion — Key Ridge Cumberland 342, an April 2012 calf sired by Top Notch Aces ‘N Eights. She was exhibited by Key Ridge Shorthorn Farm.

Female senior champion — Key Ridge Sue 248, a January 2011 female was sired by CCS Trademark. She was also shown by Key Ridge Shorthorn Farm.

Female reserve senior champion — Misty is an October 2010 female sired by WHR Romeo 3114ET and shown by WB Shorthorns.

Grand bull

Rains selected Maple II Jack Of Gold II as the grand champion bull. The December 2011 bull calf was exhibited by Maple II shorthorns, Grove City, Pa. He was sired by Maple II DR Goldmine 09 and he was the bull calf champion.
