Grange will host annual corn show

WOOSTER, Ohio – Valley College Grange in Wayne County will host its fourth annual corn show and supper Nov. 10.
A meal featuring homemade fried mush, cornmeal pancakes, hominy, sausage, corn muffins, applesauce and a relish plate will be served from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The price for meals is $7 for adults, $4 for children 5-12, and children 4 and under eat free.
The upper level of the Grange Hall will have various displays, including corn entries for both the senior and junior divisions, free popcorn all day long and items for sale including Grange cookbooks, bags of roasted cornmeal and homemade canned goods.
Corn varieties. Some of the varieties of corn exhibited last year included: Pioneer, Dekalb, Garst, GFS, Doebler’s, Kidron Seed, Open Pollenated and Indian Corn.
There is no advance registration required and no entry fee. An entry consists of 10 ears of corn from this year’s crop or 1 quart of shelled corn.
Both cash prizes and door prizes will be awarded to class winners, with plaques being presented to the champion of each division.
Entries will be accepted at the Grange Hall from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 8 and 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 9.
The corn will be on display Nov. 10, with prizes awarded at 7 p.m. that evening.
