Learn how to care for woodlands at Ohio workshops
COLUMBUS — The Ohio Woodland Stewards Program will offer several workshops this year on caring for trees, forest wildlife and calculating taxes on woodland areas.
The workshops will be held at the following locations:
— Muskingum County: June 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Name That Tree, location to be determined, $35 per person.
— The West Woods: June 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Name That Tree, Geauga Park District, 9465 Kinsman Rd. (state Route 87), Geauga County, Russell and Newbury townships, $35.
— Cox Arboretum and Gardens Metropark: June 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Name That Tree, 6733 Springboro Pike, Dayton, $35.
— Plum Creek Park: June 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., The Basics of Woodland Ownership, Medina County Park District, Brunswick Hills Township, Medina County, $35.
— The West Woods: July 17 from 6 to 9 p.m., The Woods in My Backyard: Catching Critters Creeping in Your Woods, (part one of a two-part series continued Aug. 14), Geauga Park District, 9465 Kinsman Rd. (state Route 87), Russell and Newbury townships, Geauga County, $20 (or $30 for this session and the Aug. 14 session).
— Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center: July 9-11, PDA: Plant Diagnostic Academy, 1680 Madison Ave., Wooster, $250.
— Ohio State University, Kottman Hall: Aug. 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Introduction to Woodland Management: A Workshop for the Ohio Forest Tax Law Program, 2021 Coffey Rd., Columbus, $70.
— The West Woods: Aug. 14 from 6 to 9 p.m., The Woods in My Backyard: An Rx for Your Woodland Trees and Shrubs, (part two of the two-part series started July 17), Geauga Park District, 9465 Kinsman Rd. (state Route 87), Russell and Newbury townships, Geauga County, $20 (or $30 total if paid with the July 17 session).
— Farm Science Review: Sept. 16-17 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days and Sept. 18 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., (pond, wildlife and forestry presentations in the Gwynne Conservation Area), Molly Caren Agricultural Center, 135 State Route 38 NE, London, admission charge.
— Sandusky County: Oct. 4, Pruning and Thinning, time, cost and location to be determined.
— Montgomery County: Oct. 28, Winter Tree ID, time, cost and location to be determined.
