Northeast Ohio maple meeting set

BURTON, Ohio – For maple producers, it is never too early to start thinking about producing next year’s crop of maple syrup. In fact, any season is the right season to talk about making maple syrup.

The Ohio State University Extension Northeast Ohio Maple Committee and the Ohio Maple Producers Association invite all maple producers to join together for a cookout and informal educational meeting.

Cookout, meeting. The event will be held at Erwin E. Gingerich Jr’s. farm and sugarbush, 14875 Georgia Road in Burton Township, Geauga County, on Aug. 23.

The evening will begin at 5 p.m. with a cookout. At 6 p.m., there will be an informal discussion led by Randall Heiligmann, Ohio State University Extension Forester, and Mark Wilthew, Service Forester with ODNR’s Division of Forestry. Both will be available to answer producers’ questions on all aspects of maple production.

Tap tour. Following the discussion, will be a tour of the Gingerich 4,000 tap sugar operation, which features a twin vacuum pipeline installed by Lapierre Equipment Company of Quebec, Canada.

A factory representative from the company will be on hand to answer questions about the layout, installation, and operation of this extensive tubing system.

Fees may be mailed to OSU Extension, P.O. Box 387, Burton, Ohio 44021-0387. When registering, please indicate if attending the cookout and/or meeting. Registration deadline is Aug. 21.
