Prized porker exhibited by York County resident

HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Supreme Champion swine at the 2012 Pennsylvania Farm Show was the winning Yorkshire, JTPS1 Flair 1-9, exhibited by James Parlett of Airville, Pa., York County.

Judge Al Christian, Ames, Iowa, chose the February bred gilt from 153 entries comprising eight different hog breeds. Parlett’s pig topped the bred gilt sale, selling for a record $2,500. The sale average was $688.

The champion and reserve champion gilts of each breed were: Berkshire champion: CHL31 Ms Studman 6-9, exhibited by Lynn E. Lazarus, Germansville, Lehigh Co.; reserve champion: JTP1 Plus Miss 2-9, exhibited by James T. Parlett Jr., Airville, York Co.

Chester White champion: KWF11 Ms Tonto Gonzal 11-4, exhibited by Ken Wetzel, Rossiter, Indiana Co.; reserve Champion: RB1 Debbie 5-4, exhibited by Rodger Bankert, Hanover, York Co.

Duroc champion: DCHH1 Ms Chest 3-10 exhibited by David Holloway, Glen Rock, York Co.; reserve champion: CBHR1 Ms Tool Box 3-10, exhibited by Carroll Herr Jr., Pequea, Lancaster Co.

Hampshire champion: JTPS1 Angela 1-12, exhibited by James Parlett, Airville, York Co.; reserve champion: RRWY1 Ms Bam Walnut 19-3, exhibited by Wilson Brothers, New Freedom, York Co.

Landrace champion: RRWY1 Ms Iron Man 10-2, exhibited by Wilson Brothers, New Freedom, York Co.; reserve champion: LAG1 Karlstorp 7-4, exhibited by Grant Lazarus, Germansville, Lehigh Co.
