MEDINA, Ohio — Medina County Career Center Animal Management and Care members will be attending fall leadership camp at the end of September.

The chapter held meetings discussing volunteer opportunities,community service and fund raising activities to strengthen our involvement in our community.

The MCCC FFA Chapter veterinary science team will be representing Ohio in October at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.

The Paws to Play Pet Shop and Grooming Salon is now open and scheduling appointments, call to have your dog or cat groomed by our students.

The chapter’s up coming activities include a Trunk or Treat event on Oct. 29 at Medina County Career Center from 4-6 p.m. designed for kids and pets and an adopt-a-thon dog wash in the spring.

SULLIVAN, Ohio — High school students gathered Sept. 8 at Camp Michael for the Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District’s Forestry Contest.

Eight schools competed: Colonel Crawford, Wynford, Buckeye Central, Bellevue, Plymouth, South Central, Western Reserve and Black River.

The day began with educational sessions on general forestry and tree identification led by Steve McGinnis, ODNR Division of Forestry, and timber cruising led by Tyler Pope, Buckeye Central agriculture teacher.

This year’s Black River FFA district team consisted of John Bricker, Eric Cordonnier, Collin Burnett, Allen Slaven, Shacoy Steele, Hope Diaz, Joe Mennell, Ray Dean, Anthony Liberty, Anna Shearer, Sora Edwards, Sierra Sturgill, Cori Aviles, Logan Kelley and Callee Aviles. The team earned first place within District 3.

BERLIN, Ohio — In September Hiland FFA members kicked off the school year by picking up trash along State Route 39 in front of Hiland High School to Chestnut Ridge Elementary as part of the Adopt-A-Highway program.

Five FFA members participated in this event.

During the September meeting they had a guest speaker, Hallie Rutt, she talked about Junior Fair Board. Applications to join Junior Fair Board are due Oct. 17.

The FFA banquet is April 29, 2017 and the next meeting will be Nov. 14.

ASHLAND, Ohio — The Crestview FFA Chapter hosted the annual chicken barbecue fundraiser Sept. 16. Community members from all around gathered in the high school commons to for the meal prepared and served by chapter students and alumni members.

Individuals from every grade level worked together during the week to arrange for the Friday evening meal. They were responsible for cleaning equipment, baking and wrapping brownies and potatoes, and also grilling the chicken throughout the school day.

With sales of over $7,000, the fundraiser enables the chapter to participate in many activities throughout the school year.
