Top lot brings $36,000 bid; Ohio Holstein sale averages $3,500

SIDNEY, Ohio — The cold temperature at the Ohio Holstein Association convention sale March 8 was soon warmed up by the large crowd and the hot bidding.

The sale, held at the Shelby County Fairgrounds, Sidney, Ohio, averaged $3,584 on 76 live lots.

Benefit sale

First into the ring was a fall calf consignment from Select Sires, Plain City, Ohio. The proceeds went to the family of Logan Krebehenne, a Select Sires employee who died while working with the bulls, and to the Ohio Holstein Junior Association.

A daughter of Seagull-Bay Supersire-ET, she sold for $2,600 to Lou Brown, New Bremen, Ohio.

$36,000 tops sale

Next in the ring and topping the sale at $36,000 was Pine-Tree 4233 Mogu 5523-ET. With a GTPI of +2440, this fall calf was a daughter of Mountfield SSI DCY Mogul-ET from Pine-Tree Diehard Sharla-ET, and carried contract interest from several A.I. organizations.

Consigned by Pine-Tree Farms, Matthew Steiner and Family, Rittman, Ohio, she was purchased by the Ohio River Syndicate, Hartline Valley Farms, Inc., Marietta, Ohio, Zimmerview Dairy, Marietta, Ohio, and Tim Cottrill, Point Pleasant, West Virginia.

Brings $9,000 bid

Raygor Farms LLC, the Sprunger Family, Dalton, Ohio, paid $9,000 for Lot # 22, St.-Jacob Goldwyn Ari-ET, a spring yearling sired by Braedale Goldwyn.

She was a daughter of Tri-Day Ashlyn-ET, Excellent 96 2E Gold Medal Dam and Dam of Merit, International Supreme Champion 2001, and All-American 3-year-old in 2000 and 4-year-old in 2001. She was the consignment of St.-Jacobs ABC, Inc. c/o Tim Abbott, Fairfield, Vermont.

Other top sellers

Schugs Atwood Nancy, Lot # 41, a senior 2-year-old sold to Richman Farms, Inc., Richard Indoe, Lodi, Ohio, for $6,000. Sired by Maple-Downs I G W Atwood-ET, her dam was a Very Good 87 daughter of Markwell Ramses.

She was consigned by Matthew and Courtney Lund, Norwalk, Ohio.

Also selling for $6,000 was Bremer Bookem Color-ET, consigned by Bremer Holsteins, Shelden, Wis., and purchased by Embry Longacre Farm, Doyle Embry, Leitchfield, Ky.

MM-T Pockets Epic Betty-ET, an August 2012 calf sold for $5,700 to Breeze Holsteins, Metcalf, Ontario, Canada. She was consigned by Michael Maloney, North Bangor, N.Y.

Jay Ackley, East Liberty, Ohio, paid $5,600 for Midas-Touch GC Reign-ET, consigned by Jennifer King, Waddington, N.Y.

SCD-JC Mayfield Bambina, a December calf, sold for $5,400 to Hilltop Farms, Darby Dicke, Xenia, Ohio, and was consigned by Silver Creek Dairy, Forest, Ohio.

Springhill-OH AW Rachel-Et, a fresh 2-year -old, sold for $5,000 to Spring Walk Farm, William Wachtel, Big Prairie, Ohio, and was consigned by Tim Hochstetler, Millersburg, Ohio.

Nine more consignments would sell over $4,000 and consignments sold to Canada, New York, Kentucky, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Indiana, as well as Ohio.
