BRISTOLVILLE, Ohio — Mahan Packing of Bristolville announced a voluntary recall Dec. 22 of approximately 772 pounds of veal due to potential product contamination with E. coli.

Owner Ray Mahan said he is confident it is an isolated incident.

The products subject to recall include nine veal carcasses. The recalled veal carcasses were delivered to Rulli Brothers in Austintown, Zagreb Meats on St. Clair in Cleveland and Sebastian Meats on W. 25th Street in Cleveland between Dec. 16 and 21.

The Ohio Department of Agriculture confirmed a positive test for E. coli O157:H7 in a sample taken from Mahan Packing Dec. 16. Although the product that tested positive was held at Mahan’s facility and not shipped, the 772 pounds of veal may potentially be contaminated as well and must be returned. There have been no reported illnesses from the products involved in this voluntary recall.

Mahan Packing urges customers not to consume the recalled product and to return it to the store where it was purchased.
