We are short on common sense

Editor:

Your May 31st article “Accidental injuries are No. 1 cause of child deaths” stated that the most effective tools in reducing childhood injuries are legislation and regulation. That surprised me coming out of the LSU AgCenter. I would think that a university would advocate education as the most powerful tool.

Remember the old phrase “a man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still.” One overlooked educational resource is the public library. The larger libraries have numerous videos on child development, accident prevention and emergency treatment. We are long on over-regulation and short on common sense.
