Ingredients for the crust:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cut into 1/2-inch cubes

Ingredients for the filling:

  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups coarsely chopped nuts

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter 9×13-inch baking pan. Line with parchment paper so ends overhang by 2 inches on 2 short ends.
  2. To prepare crust, whisk together flour, brown sugar and salt. Add butter and mix using pastry blender or a fork until combined. The mixture will be crumbly but will hold together when pinched.
  3. Press crust mixture evenly into prepared pan.
  4. Bake 15 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Set aside.
  5. To make filling, place eggs in large bowl and beat lightly. Add maple syrup, butter, brown sugar, sugar and salt, stirring until combined. Stir in nuts.
  6. Pour filling over partially baked crust. Bake 30 to 35 minutes, or until filling is set.
  7. Cool bars to room temperature in pan. Using overhanging parchment paper, lift onto cutting board and cut into bars.
