The solar farm at Northwest Local Schools is home to the Northwest SCCTC FFA chapter's first sheep flock and on-school farm.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced a $464 million investment in renewable energy infrastructure last week. Projects like on-farm solar arrays and other energy efficiency upgrades were funded in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

The Ohio Power Siting Board wants to hear from the public as it reviews its administrative rules governing applications for solar farms. The board is considering implementing new rules for solar facilities, including setbacks, landscape, lighting design, perimeter fencing requirements and operational noise. 

Pennsylvania State University is ahead of schedule to meet its goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Now university President Eric Barron wants the university to be more aggressive. He announced the creation of the Carbon Emissions Reduction Task Force on Sept. 3.

The Ohio Power Siting Board will hold a local public hearing regarding Kingwood Solar’s proposal to construct a 175 megawatt solar farm in Greene County.

Pennsylvania is figuring out how to get more energy storage in the state as it looks to create a resilient, reliable clean energy grid. One area of opportunity is putting battery storage with the many solar projects proposed to be built in the state.

Public hearings are scheduled in Ohio for four proposed utility-scale solar farms that would cover more than 8,000 acres of land and generate more than 800 megawatts of power.

As electric vehicles become more commonplace and affordable, it begs the question when will electric tractors and other farm equipment become a reality in ag states like Ohio? Major manufacturers like John Deere and Kubota are working up prototypes, but there are still many challenges ahead.

The country's largest manufacturer of solar panels broke ground on its third production facility in northwest Ohio. First Solar's new plant will bring the company’s total annual stateside production capacity up to 6 GW, which the company claims will make it more competitive with China.

A panel including representatives from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will discuss how utility-scale solar can and should be integrated into farmland.
