How easy it is to forget the Golden Rule. Recently, I have been writing often about subjects that I believe could change our world and make it better; today I am writing about the Golden Rule.
“Abraham said unto Lot: Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, for we be brethren” Genesis 13:8.” Just think how different life would be if we the people of this earth would live in harmony one with another. Abraham said to Lot “Let there be no strife between us” Genesis [...]
“Be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ sake hath forgiven you.” – Ephesians 4:32. Sometimes I think our world has lost contact with the word kindness. Do you know someone who is an especially kind person? When you hear the word kindness does some one particular immediately [...]
My father used to say to me, “George you are never too old to learn something new.” The older I get the more I realize that’s very true. I enjoy learning something new every day. Take a few moments, sit down and relax and just think about some of the new things you have learned [...]
SENIOR ADULTS We hear much today about senior citizens. Senior citizens are people who have reached an age in their lives that are now looked upon as older adults or as elderly people. “Rebuke not an elder, but entreat him as a father I Tim 5:1.” I remember when I was a teenager I used [...]
YOUR CALL Have you ever made a telephone call and instead of talking to a person you discovered you were talking to a machine? The machine did not say, “hello, how are you today?” No one said to you, “thank you for calling, how can I help you?” However you heard a recorded message that [...]
George Hazlett encourages you to think about your treasures.
A NEW DAY I have heard it said by many people “If I could live my life over and know what I know now, I would sure do things differently.” I have thought much about that statement myself. However, the fact is we cannot live our lives over. The good news is this is a [...]
“I was a stranger and ye took me in” Matt. 25:35. My wife and I were raised in homes where our parents taught us the importance of hospitality. We were taught the importance of sharing. Many years ago my wife’s mother had a man knock on her door and she answered the door to a [...]
“If you are willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land” Isa. 1:19. Here is a choice that God gives us. He says in His Holy Word “if you are willing and obedient,” in other words it is your choice. If you do the right things in life you will be rewarded [...]
My wife and I are very blessed because both of our parents and our grandparents were very generous people. My father used to say about people who were very generous, “They would give you their last dollar if you needed it or the shirt off their back.” I am convinced that generosity is passed down [...]
My wife Myrna was making some homemade soup the other day and I asked her why she was using a particular ingredient in it. She replied to me by saying “because that is what the recipe calls for.” She went on to explain to me that the soup will only taste good providing you follow [...]
Do you remember when you were a little child and people would ask you the question, “What are you going to be when you grow up?” I recall being asked that question many times. Some of the professions of interest to me at that time were farmer, carpenter, mechanic, plumber, business man and many more. [...]
Nothing is more pleasing to me as a pastor on a Sunday morning than to see people carrying to church their Bible. It is an indication to me that they have come to church prepared to learn the Word of God. When I attend a conference or a special meeting I always enjoy having an [...]
I would like you to think about a special person in your life who has been a very good example to you. Take a moment and think today how they have been a good example to you. Perhaps that person no longer lives on this earth because they have gone to be with the Lord. [...]
I often wonder to myself if dedication is becoming an old-fashioned word which we just wink at, go on our way and do as we please?
As a retired minister I have officiated at many funeral services and tried my very best to bring comfort to those who mourn. During the death of my sister, I was reminded, as I have reminded others, of the great comfort of God to each of us.
One of my grandfather’s favorite songs many years ago was the song, This Old House by Stuart Hamblin. He especially liked the words and he said they reminded him of his own life.
This is the season of exchanging of gifts. Every Christmas many friends, relatives and neighbors exchange Christmas gifts in celebration of Christmas. About October of every year we begin to talk about our gift exchange.
If you are anything like me I cannot believe how quickly the year 2011 passed by. It seems like the older I get the faster the year’s pass by.
