WEST SALEM, Ohio — The Northwestern FFA chapter’s second most successful fundraiser during the year is whole hog sausage sales.

The money raised is used for a multitude of items such as member awards, Career Development Event entry fees, Leadership Conferences and State and National FFA Convention trips.

Members will be making the fresh sausage at Heffelfinger’s Meats Inc. Feb. 28, and will be delivered/picked up the same day.

The sausage is available in spiced (with salt and pepper) or nonspiced.

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — On the weekend of Jan. 10-11, 12 members of the Zane Trace FFA chapter attended the Made For Excellence/Advanced Leadership Development Conference at the Crowne Plaza North, Columbus.

During the conference the members participated in a series of activities to discover and develop their leadership skills.

These skills included goal setting, communication, decision making and self-evaluation.

The sessions were led by National FFA staff as well as past and present members of the Ohio FFA officer team.

While attending the conference the members enjoyed a dinner and a dance for the entire group of more than 200 FFA members.

ALLIANCE, Ohio — The Marlington FFA chapter held its monthly meeting Jan. 18.

There were many members, alumni and guests present. Many topics were discussed.

The chapter planned their annual teacher breakfast, banquet and upcoming judging contest.

The chapter canceled its trip to Columbus Jan. 10 because of weather conditions.

BESSEMER, Pa. — Carl Farone of the Mohawk High School FFA chapter received the Keystone FFA Degree at the Pennsylvania Farm Show.

The award recognizes students who complete two years of record books and are active in the state and national FFA.

The son of James and Marcia Farone of New Galilee, Pa., Farone’s project was his on-farm work experience at Robert Bauder’s Hillside Aryshire Farm. Farone has worked at this farm for many years, gaining experience with dairy cattle as well as equipment operation. Carl also is involved in his family’s beef herd at home.

Farone is Mohawk FFA’s past treasurer and current president. He has chaired the parliamentary procedure team and has placed well in livestock and dairy judging in the regional competitions. Farone has been on past square dance teams and was on this year’s demonstration team.

Farone is applying to Youngstown State University and hopes to enroll in the lineman program through First Energy.

Also at the farm show, members of the square dance team received a blue ribbon. The square dance contest included approximately 60 teams that practiced from October to January to prepare for the contest.

The team performed five dances during the competition.

Members of the Mohawk FFA square dance team, the Cowboys and Angels, are: Kelli Fox, Sarah Kaltenbaugh, Sarah Lokar, Cassie Musser, Samantha Clark, Tyler Claypool, Dan Gwin, Alex Scott, Aaron Ordak, Brandon Ball and Brandon Aikman.

In addition, chapter memeber Abbey Benninghoff claimed reserve champion lamb honors at the farm show.
