SMITHVILLE, Ohio — Isaac Kauffman, son of Jeff and Nancy Kauffman, of the Smithville FFA Chapter, received the highest award in the state May 3 at the State FFA Convention in Columbus.

To achieve this award, members must have an approved supervised agricultural experience program and meet rigorous criteria.

Kauffman is a junior; his SAE consists of working on his parents’ home farm caring for the family’s sheep flock, broiler houses and diversified crop operation. He has been an officer for two years and was recently elected Smithville FFA Chapter president for 2008-2009.

ALLIANCE, Ohio — The Marlington FFA Chapter recently traveled to the Ohio State Fairgrounds for the 80th annual Ohio FFA Convention.

Students attended state sessions and toured the Ohio State University food science campus and swine and beef farms. That evening they attended the annual dance.

Brittany Schulz was recognized for receiving her state degree and Lauren Hohman received a gold award on her treasurer’s book. Also receiving recognition was Liz Conrad’s bronze award on her reporter book.

The chapter’s floriculture team placed 6th in the state.
