Item No. 860

Hello from Hazard!

One more response came in this week for Item No. 858, which we revealed previously as a wrench used to tighten cones on the ballast of a McCormick Deering hand cranked milk separator.

Rob White of Kinsman, Ohio, e-mailed Hazard that he believed the tool to be used to tighten fence wire. You were right on the tightening part, Rob — thanks for taking the time to send your guess!

Item No. 859 is still stumping even the most Hazard-ous of readers, since we only received two guesses this week.

David Miller of Louisville, Ohio, said the tool is used to poach eggs, and Lynne Herold of Garrettsville, Ohio, said she thinks it’s either a popcorn popper or a small pie maker for open fires.

We’ll repeat last week’s hint, in case anyone else wants to take a stab at this one: Maxine Sharrock, who shared the item, says she still uses the tool in her kitchen.

We’ll wait until next week to reveal if David or Lynne gave a correct guess!

In the meantime, we’re moving on to Item No. 860, shared by Edward Wanchock of Sewickley, Pa.

Edward knows what this tool is used for; do you?
