Hello from Hazard!

Gailey Henderson of Williamstown, W.Va., did a little digging to help find an answer to Item No. 694, which we received to credible responses to (a meat tenderizer and corn sheller).

Henderson says the Dictionary of American Hand Tools (page 461) shows the gadget, and it is listed as a meat tenderizer – a steak pounder, to be exact.

What would we do without you readers? Many thanks for the background on our mystery item.

This week’s new item, Item No. 695, looks rather wicked, but its use is rather benign. Intrigued? You’ll have to tune in next week to see if anyone guesses its use.

This item is another of the tools shared by Randy Winland of Prospect, Ohio, a self-described collector of “what-is-its?”

If you know what Item No. 695 is, send a note to us at: Hazard a Guess, P.O. Box 38, Salem, OH 44460; or via e-mail: editorial@farmanddairy.com.
