Food preservation workshops held in Tuscarawas Co.

DOVER, Ohio — The Tuscarawas County office of Ohio State University Extension will be offering several free food preservation classes this summer.

Upcoming classes will feature live canning demonstrations focused on preparing jams and jellies and salsa. General food preservation classes will be offered as well.

All classes are free and will include class handouts and recipes as well as samples.

Class dates and locations are as follows:

Gnadenhutten Library: July 23, 2-3:30 p.m., jams and jellies;

Tuscarawas Library: July 24, 6:30-8 p.m., salsa;

Sugarcreek Library: July 27, 5-6 p.m. drying produce and herbs;

Uhrichsville Library: July 31, 2-3:30 p.m., canning basics;

New Philadelphia Library: Aug. 7, 6:30-8 p.m., food preservation basics;

Pressure canner lid testing is available throughout the summer at the Tuscarawas County office of Ohio State University Extension for a fee of $5 per canner tested. Appointments are suggested.

Additionally, free pressure canner lid testing will be offered at Dover Parkside Buehler’s July 27 from 1-3 p.m.
