World’s widest horned cow crowned

BARNESVILLE, Ohio — The Texas Longhorn Marketing Alliance hosted the World Championship Horn Measuring event at the Resistol Arena Complex in Mesquite, Texas, Oct. 1.

The widest-horned Texas Longhorn bulls and cows were measured, documented and watched by hundreds. Cattle are divided into categories related to age groups to make a fair competition of data.

Shadow Jubilee

After hundreds of cattle were scientifically measured tip to tip, one cow ruled the nation’s herd at 88 inches tip to tip, Shadow Jubilee.

In 2010, Shadow Jubilee was voted the Texas Longhorn Marketing Alliance World Champion Ultimate Cow with a measurement of 86 1/8 inches. In one year, she added another 1 7/8 inch tip to tip.

Shadow Jubilee is sired by The Shadow, bred and born at Dickinson Cattle Co. Inc., Barnesville. Her black Dalmatian spots catch the eye, and the cantilever-style spread demands respect from livestock people who understand genetic planning.

Shadow Jubilee produced natural, clone and embryo calves for Dickinson for 10 years and was purchased by Jim and Barb Steffler of Lapeer, Mich., in 2010. She has been used for embryo production for the past year with progeny planned and sold in advance by the dozen.
