PITTSBURGH — Founded in 1992, Hunter Associates is an independent wealth management firm headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pa., with a branch office in Salem, Ohio.
Hunter Associates is built on investment and wealth management philosophies developed by the firm’s founder, David W. Hunter, and is among the region’s largest independent investment advisory firms.
Foundation
The Salem, Ohio, branch was established in April 2011 by financial advisers, Robert S. McCulloch, III and John C. Scarpitti, who serve as managing directors of the firm, and David A. Scarpitti, who serves as the branch manager of the office.
Prior to joining Hunter Associates, Bob, John and Dave were employed by Parker/Hunter Incorporated, of which David Hunter was chairman before his departure in 1992, and its successor firm, Janney Montgomery Scott LLC, which acquired Parker/Hunter in 2005.
McCulloch is a native of Salem, Ohio, and has served clients in the investment industry for more than 30 years. He currently serves on the executive committee and is vice-chairman of the board of directors of Hunter Associates.
McCulloch holds a bachelor’s degree from Denison University and an M.B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh. He obtained his Certified Financial Planner certification in 1985 and is a graduate of the Securities Industry Institute.
John C. Scarpitti grew up in Sebring, Ohio, and now resides in Salem, Ohio. He has served clients in the investment industry for more than 25 years. He currently serves on the management committee of Hunter Associates.
John holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Mount Union and a master’s degree from Miami University. He has completed the accredited wealth management program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
David A. Scarpitti is a native of Sebring, Ohio. He has worked in the investment industry for more than 15 years. Before beginning his career in finance, David was a teacher and coach with the Sebring McKinley local school district.
David holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Mount Union and a master’s degree from Youngstown State University.
Employees
In addition to Bob, John and Dave, the Salem office employs three associates, Kathy McMillan, Jodi Powers and Susan Scheiben.
In April of 2012, two additional investment advisers, Daniel J. Scarpitti and Brian G. Taylor, were hired in the Salem branch office. Dan is a graduate of the University of Mount Union in 2009 with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in business administration. Brian is a 2010 graduate of Ohio University with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in business marketing.
