ODNR confirmed bird flu in three wild birds in Ohio. But Ohio still hasn't had any cases in domestic flocks, suggesting bird owners are doing a good job on biosecurity.

The United States Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has confirmed highly pathogenic avian influenza, or bird flu, in three more states; Kansas, Wisconsin and Illinois.

Avian influenza has been confirmed in Connecticut and Iowa, Cecil County, Maryland, Charles Mix County, South Dakota, and Stoddard County, Missouri. 

State ag officials in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia are urging poultry farmers to be careful, in light of the USDA confirming highly pathogenic avian influenza, or bird flu, cases in several states.

Highly pathogenic avian influenza has been confirmed in a non-commercial backyard flock (nonpoultry) in Michigan and a commercial poultry flock in Delaware.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has confirmed highly pathogenic avian influenza in flocks in Maine and New York.

USDA has confirmed highly pathogenic avian influenza in a flock of commercial broiler chickens in Kentucky and a backyard flock of birds in Virginia.

Poultry flock owners, regardless of size or confinement practices, need to set up their biosecurity game to prevent the spread of avian influenza.
